A girder straddle carrier is a rubber tyred gantry crane built to lift and carry very heavy loads on site. The UZX-DTL lifts 20–1200 t, with spans of 5–40 m and lifting heights of 5–20 m, and is used mainly for precast concrete elements: bridge girders, bridge segments and U-beams. On large bridges, girders are lifted by two machines working together or by a single machine with two spreaders.
The machine travels straight, sideways at 90° and diagonally, so it carries the girder from the casting area to storage, loads it onto the transporter or sets it directly on the piers, with no runways. Unladen it travels at up to 20 m/min, laden at up to 10 m/min, on level ground. Each machine is configured for the project: height, capacity, tyre type and lifting attachments.

The machine has two side frames on rubber-tyred wheels, joined at the top by the girder carrying the lifting gear, and straddles the precast girder like a gate. The lifting gear grips and raises it, and the machine carries it along the site road or through the precast plant. The wheels turn for straight, 90° lateral or diagonal travel, so the machine positions itself exactly above the piers or the transporter. For very heavy box girders, two machines work in sync, one at each end.

Choose the model for the weight of the heaviest element and for the job. For bridge segments installed across a line, the UZX-DTL180 or UZX-DTL200, the latter with two lifting points and a 40 m span. For U-beams in the precast plant, the UZX-DTL300. For box girders of hundreds of tonnes, the UZX-DTL800, which works in pairs. The span and height follow from the girder width and the height of the piers or transporter.
