Definition and legal framework
A cookie is a small text file, containing letters and numbers, that is stored on the user's device (computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone) when they visit a website. Cookies make it possible to recognize the device on subsequent visits and help the site work correctly, remember preferences and improve the user experience. The use of cookies on uzinex.ro complies with the applicable legal framework: Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), Directive 2002/58/EC on privacy in electronic communications (ePrivacy), Law 506/2004 on the processing of personal data in the electronic communications sector, and the guidelines of the Romanian National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP).

Categories of cookies used on uzinex.ro
- —Strictly necessary cookies (Essential) — absolutely indispensable for the site to function. They include: session cookies for navigation, security cookies (CSRF protection, attack prevention), cookies for contact-form functionality, cookies for remembering the cookie-consent preference. These cookies do not require consent, being considered indispensable under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive.
- —Performance and analytics cookies (Analytics) — help us understand how visitors interact with the site: the most visited pages, time spent, traffic sources, devices used, any errors. We use services such as Vercel Analytics or Google Analytics for these purposes. The data is usually aggregated and anonymized.
- —Functionality cookies (Functional) — remember user preferences: the chosen language (Romanian or English), region, display settings, embedded-video preferences. They improve the personalized experience without tracking activity for commercial purposes.

- —_vercel_analytics — performance cookie, duration 1 year, purpose: measuring traffic and Core Web Vitals via Vercel Analytics, anonymized.
- —uzinex_consent — strictly necessary cookie, duration 6 months, purpose: remembering the user's decision on consent for non-essential cookies.
- —uzinex_locale — functionality cookie, duration 1 year, purpose: remembering the preferred language (RO/EN).
- —YouTube (VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, YSC, PREF, CONSENT) — third-party cookies placed by YouTube when watching the embedded videos in the Video Gallery.
- —Google Fonts — does not place cookies, but may log the IP address for font-usage statistics.
Legal basis for using cookies
For strictly necessary cookies, the legal basis is the legitimate interest of Uzinex in ensuring the correct operation and security of the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), without the user's consent being required, in line with the exceptions in the ePrivacy Directive. For all other cookies (performance, functionality, marketing), the legal basis is the user's express consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), obtained through a cookie banner displayed on the first visit.
The consent banner
On the first visit to uzinex.ro, the user sees a banner that allows them to: (1) accept all cookies; (2) reject all non-essential cookies; (3) customize the choice by category (performance, functionality, marketing). The preference is stored in a dedicated cookie (uzinex_consent) and can be changed at any time via the Cookie settings link in the site footer. Rejecting non-essential cookies does not affect the main operation of the site, but may limit certain personalized features.

Cookie lifetime
Cookies fall into two categories by lifetime: (1) Session cookies — deleted automatically when the browser is closed; used for temporary navigation, security, forms. (2) Persistent cookies — remain on the device for a set period (from a few hours to a maximum of 24 months); used for preferences, analytics, marketing. Uzinex does not use cookies with an unjustifiably long lifetime and periodically reviews the duration of each cookie for compliance with the GDPR minimization principle.
International transfers
Some third-party cookies may transmit data to providers outside the European Economic Area (for example, YouTube servers operated by Google LLC in the USA). These transfers are protected by GDPR-compliant mechanisms: Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or other adequate safeguards.
