A marine winch pulls, holds and pays out wire rope in ship and port operations: towing, anchoring, mooring and hauling ships up the slipway. Towing winches have a rated load of 10–300 t, a speed of 5–20 m/min and drums for 200–1500 m of rope, while slipway winches have 10–100 t and drums for 20–5000 m. High-strength materials keep the winch in good condition in all sea conditions.
Each winch is chosen for the job and for the power available on board. The electric version has steady speed and power, precise speed and torque control, low consumption and produces no exhaust or oil leaks. The hydraulic version has high torque and pull, adjusts its output on its own when the load changes and is compact, easy to install on deck.

The winch drum is turned by an electric or hydraulic motor through a gearbox and winds or pays out the rope at a controlled speed. The brake holds the load in place, and on towing winches the holding load is well above the rated load: the 392 kN model holds 785 kN. On hydraulic winches the circuit pressure adapts to the effort on its own, so the winch stays stable when the load changes suddenly, in waves or with snatch loads.
