Every steel structure workshop that welds heavy beams knows the moment when the part has to be turned over: two hooks, a hoist, three people around it and the risk that the part slips or rotates suddenly. A chain turnover device makes this operation controlled and safe. LAZIRON LFZ hangs from the overhead crane, holds the part in its own chains and rotates it through 360°, to any angle, controlled by remote control. It comes in two versions, for parts of 10 t or 20 t, and is designed for heavy or irregularly shaped components.
In the production flow, LFZ serves the welding, finishing and inspection stations, where the part has to be turned to another face several times. It replaces improvised turning with two hooks or with levers, which takes time, puts people at risk and leaves marks on the part's surface. Because it works suspended, as an overhead crane accessory, it takes up no space on the hall floor. See also the other auxiliary equipment for steel structure plants.
• Remote control: the operator stays at a distance from the part being turned and controls lifting, lowering and rotation by remote control. Movements are smooth, without jerks.
• 360° rotation: the part can be brought into any position required for welding or assembly, which helps with welding in the flat position, easier to carry out.
• No slipping and no reverse rotation: large parts with special shapes are held firmly throughout the turnover, and the part does not slip out of the chains when the centre of gravity shifts.
• The equipment goes to the part: you do not have to move the large part to a dedicated area. The device reaches the part with the overhead crane wherever it is suspended and turns it on the spot.
• Grip adapted to the shape: the part is secured with the suspension chain, and for irregular shapes and dimensions the chain can be replaced with an auxiliary chain or a textile sling.
• No marks on the surface: for parts with a sensitive surface, the auxiliary sprocket and the lifting sling can be changed, so the part is lifted and turned without marks.
• No shape limits: turnover is not limited by the part's length, width, dimensions or shape. Any part that can be lifted safely can also be turned.
• Fewer people next to the part: during rotation there is no longer any need for people to guide the part by hand or with levers. The operator follows the manoeuvre from a distance, and the area under the part stays clear, which simplifies the hall's occupational safety rules.
• Small footprint: with dimensions of 2730 × 330 × 1300 mm, the device is easy to store next to the station when not in use and easy to move from one workstation to another with the same overhead crane.
• Works on site too: besides the overhead crane in the hall, the device can be lifted with a mobile crane, so you can also use it during erection where there is no overhead crane, for example when assembling large sections before lifting them into position.

LFZ is intended for steel structure plants that produce heavy or complex components and need to turn them frequently: welded beams, box girders, columns, brackets, structural nodes, castings or machine subassemblies. Where a beam has to be welded on both faces and then inspected, a chain turnover device shortens every manoeuvre and makes it repeatable, regardless of the shift or the crane crew.
The difference from a chain crane or an ordinary chain hoist is control of the rotation. A conventional hoist lifts and lowers, but turning is done by successive re-rigging, with the part passed from one hook to another. LFZ is a lifting and rotating device at the same time: the part stays in the chains at all times, and rotation is motorized, controlled, through 360°.
Think of an ordinary day in a hall that produces beams for steel buildings or bridges: each beam is turned for flange welding, then for seam inspection, then for repairs or for fitting stiffeners. Every manoeuvre with successive re-rigging keeps the overhead crane busy and stops work at the welding station. A chain turnover device turns these manoeuvres into short operations, done by a single operator with the remote control, while the welders get ready for the next face.
The equipment also has its place in machine-building workshops, in agricultural equipment or tank plants, wherever heavy subassemblies have to be processed on several faces. The 10 t version covers most parts in a medium-sized workshop, and the 20 t version is suited to large beams and subassemblies.
The device is built with CE-certified components, in line with the requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. It is often used together with beam assembly and welding lines; for example, see the LAZIRON box girder assembly machine, where heavy parts are turned several times before completion.
1. The device is hung on the hook of the overhead crane or mobile crane and brought above the part, wherever it is, without moving it to a separate area.
2. The part is wrapped in the two suspension chains, each 8 m long (customizable). For irregular shapes or sensitive surfaces, an auxiliary chain or a textile sling is used.
3. The overhead crane lifts the device together with the part, and the operator moves back to a safe distance.
4. Using the remote control, the operator rotates the part to the desired angle, anywhere within the 360°. The chains hold the part without slipping and without reverse rotation.
5. The part is lowered in its new position onto supports or onto the welding station, and the chains are released for the next manoeuvre.
