A 3-in-1 H-beam machine answers a question every producer of light steel structures asks: how do you make welded beams in series without a long line, three machines and a lot of crane handling? LAZIRON PHJ combines assembly, submerged arc welding and straightening on a single machine. It processes H, I and T beams with a web of 200–1800 mm, flanges of 200–600 mm and lengths of 4–15 m, and 1–2 operators are enough to run it.
In a classic plant, the beam goes through three stations: the assembly and tacking table, the welding machine, then the flange straightening machine. Between them, the part is lifted, turned over and moved several times. The PHJ replaces this route: centring during assembly and correction of distortion are done at the same time as welding, in a single pass. It sits right after strip cutting of the plate and before drilling and painting. See the full range of H-beam and box girder fabrication machines.
• Three functions, one machine: assembly, welding and straightening are done on the same machine. You no longer buy, maintain and find room in the hall for three separate machines.
• 1–2 operators for the whole process: the control panel is clear and can be used by a single person. Compared with a standard H-beam line, the number of people drops sharply.
• Symmetrical welding on both sides: submerged arc welding is done on both sides symmetrically, and hot correction and one-pass forming keep the beam straight from the start.
• 30% higher efficiency: compared with traditional equipment, fewer lifting and handling operations mean more beams per shift.
• Automatic, synchronous centring: clamping and centring of the flanges and the web are done synchronously, so the H-beam comes out symmetrical without manual adjustments from one part to the next.
• Stability during welding: the base components are castings, and the precision-machined rollers prevent vibration during welding. The technology is mature, with a low defect rate.
• Floor space saved in the hall: the whole machine is about 27 m long and takes up less space than a line with three separate stations.
• Low energy consumption: the integrated design eliminates transport between stations and idle running of several machines.
For a steel construction plant, these advantages add up to a single result: the cost per metre of welded beam drops, because you pay for less labour, fewer machines and less hall space.
What does not show on the data sheet matters too. The precision-machined rollers, the cast bed and synchronous centring mean the first beam in a series looks the same as the hundredth. For a shop that delivers structures for erection, this means connection holes that line up, columns that stand plumb and fewer complaints from the site team. A stable machine is also a machine that rarely breaks down, and the technology used in the PHJ is mature and proven in production.

Thicknesses of 6–20 mm for the flange and 6–16 mm for the web cover the typical welded beams for light structures, where a rolled section would be oversized or hard to find in the required length.
The first thing you notice is the traffic in the hall. On a classic line, every beam is lifted several times: from the assembly table to the welding machine, turned over for the second side, then taken to straightening. Every lift ties up the crane and needs two people for slinging. On the PHJ, the beam goes in as flanges and web and comes out finished, and the crane stays free for the rest of production.
The second thing is consistent quality. Welding distortion happens anyway, but on the integrated machine it is corrected hot, in the same pass, while the part is still clamped and centred. You no longer depend on an experienced straightener working by eye with a press and a torch. Beams from the same series come out identical, and erection on site goes ahead without adjustments.
The third thing is planning. With 1–2 operators on a single machine, daily capacity depends on the machine, not on how many people you managed to bring in for the shift. For plants facing a shortage of welders and skilled workers, this is often the deciding argument.
The PHJ is designed for the production and processing of light steel structures. The clearest example is steel halls for warehouses, logistics, agriculture and manufacturing: columns and rafters made from welded H-beams, with a tall web and relatively thin flanges, produced in series, at lengths of up to 15 m. For such projects, a beam welded to the exact size from the calculation saves steel compared with a rolled H-beam chosen from a catalogue.
The same machine also produces I-beams and T-beams, used for floors, industrial platforms, walkways and secondary structures. Steel construction shops that deliver complete hall kits gain control over lead times: steel beams are made in-house, to the dimension in the project, with no long-lead orders for sections and no offcuts from bars bought in standard lengths.
Demand for steel halls for logistics, storage, agriculture and light manufacturing keeps many structural shops busy. For them, the difference between buying a rolled H-beam and producing it in-house shows in the margin and in the delivery date promised to the customer. A shop that produces its own beams can quote faster, can accept last-minute design changes and no longer depends on the stock of rolled section distributors.
The machine is delivered with CE-certified components and with the documentation required by the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. If you produce beams larger or heavier than the PHJ covers, see the ZL assembly machine, which works in a separate flow with gantry welding and hydraulic straightening.
A classic line has three separate stations: assembly, gantry welding and straightening. It suits heavy beams, with thick flanges and large dimensions, where each stage needs a dedicated machine. But you pay for three machines, more floor space, more operators and a lot of handling between stations.
The integrated option pays off when you produce beams in series for light structures, in the range of 200–600 mm for the flange and 200–1800 mm for the web. Here, the advantage comes from the fact that the beam does not leave the machine until it is finished: assembled, welded on both sides and straightened. Fewer lifts also mean fewer accidental deformations and fewer risks for people.
From an investment point of view, the calculation is straightforward: one machine instead of three, one foundation and one power supply, one service contract. Equipment purchase cost, labour cost and factory floor space cost all drop at the same time, and payback comes from daily production, not from very large volumes that an average shop does not have.
If you are not sure which option suits your production, send us the beam sizes you make most often and your monthly volume. We will tell you honestly whether you need the integrated machine or a line with separate stations.
The flow starts from plate cut into strips for the flanges and web and ends with the finished beam, without the part changing workstation. The steps are as follows:
1. The flanges and the web, cut from plate to the width in the project, are placed on the machine.
2. The system clamps and centres the flanges and the web synchronously, with automatic positioning.
3. Submerged arc welding is carried out symmetrically on both sides, at a welding speed of 300–1500 mm/min.
4. In the same pass, the machine hot-corrects the flange distortion caused by welding.
5. The H, I or T beam comes out formed in a single pass, ready for drilling, cutting to length and painting.
The whole cycle is run from a single panel, by one operator, with the help of a second person for loading and unloading. On a 3-in-1 H-beam machine, the program changes quickly from one size to another, so small series of different beams also stay profitable.
Operator training is included at commissioning and is given by our local team, in your language, directly on the beams from your production. The operator learns the settings for each size, the welding parameters and how to check the finished beam, so the machine produces from day one.
