A CNC beam drilling machine becomes necessary the moment bolt holes start dictating the pace of your entire structural production. LAZIRON SKJ-1250 drills H-beams in three dimensions, with three high-speed BT40 main spindles of 15 kW each, on profiles with a flange of 100–600 mm and a web of 200–1250 mm. It drills holes of 8–40 mm, on thicknesses of up to 40 mm, over processing lengths of 12 m or 15 m. It is designed for structural steel companies, shipbuilding and heavy industry.
In the hall, the SKJ sits between cutting and assembly. It replaces manual marking out and drilling each flange and the web one at a time, operations usually done with a magnetic base drill or on a radial drill. The intelligent control system automatically adjusts the drilling parameters, shortens setup time and reduces errors, and the beam passes through the machine only once. See also the other machines in the beam cutting and drilling category.
Speed is one difference from conventional drilling. When a steel beam has dozens of holes on both flanges and on the web, every manual marking out is a chance for error, and a wrong hole discovered at erection means a beam sent back from site. On a CNC beam drilling machine, all positions come from the program, and quality stays the same from the first part to the last.
• 3D drilling, on several planes: the 3D CNC function allows complex drilling operations on several planes and angles, so the flanges and the web are processed without turning the beam over between operations.
• Three main spindles of 15 kW each: the 3 high-speed BT40 spindles, convertible to M4, work on the H-beam, which shortens the cycle per part compared with single-spindle drilling.
• Holes of 8–40 mm, thicknesses up to 40 mm: covers the usual holes for bolted joints in structures, from light connections to joints in thick flanges. You no longer need different machines for small and large holes.
• The time between holes is reduced, and the machine spends more time drilling than positioning.
• Hole groups: the machine can drill any pattern within 500 mm, which covers the hole groups of splice plates and end connections.
• Automatic parameter adjustment: the intelligent control system optimises tool paths, adjusts parameters and reduces errors, with higher productivity and less wasted material.
• Long, heavy beams: the machine works with large, heavy H-beams, and the processing length of 12 m or 15 m and the effective feed length of 12 m cover the standard bars used in steel construction.
• Adjustable speed of 30–3000 rpm: the spindles adapt to the hole diameter and the material, from small drills to 40 mm holes.
What changes in the production flow
In a shop that drills by hand, the beam passes through the same hands several times: marking out on one flange, drilling, turning over, marking out on the other flange, then the web. Every turn requires the overhead crane and a person to guide the part, and the marking out is checked each time with a tape and a square. On large batches, drilling easily becomes the operation that holds up welding and delivery.
With the SKJ, the beam goes in once, with all holes defined in the program. The operator loads, starts the cycle and checks the part at the outfeed. The time saved moves to assembly and welding, where value is actually created, and the production manager can plan based on a predictable cycle time, not on the availability of the most experienced markers.

In steel construction, the SKJ drills beams for industrial halls, warehouses, steel-frame buildings and bridge structures. Here bolted joints are the rule, and every steel beam has holes in the flanges for fixing purlins and in the web for splice plates. An in-house CNC beam drilling machine allows a structural steel company to deliver beams ready for erection, without sending drilling out to third parties and without depending on manual marking out.
In shipbuilding, at shipyards, and in heavy industry, what matters is the exact positioning of holes on large, heavy parts and consistent quality from one batch to the next. Metal drilling on H-beams with three spindles at once means shorter cycles and less handling with the overhead crane, and parts have the same geometry no matter who is working the shift.
The magnetic base drill remains useful for one-off jobs and for erection work, but it cannot keep up with series production: every hole needs marking out, positioning and manual clamping. The SKJ takes on the volume, and the portable tools are kept for exceptions. The machine uses CE-certified components, in line with the requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
For shops that currently drill on a conventional metal drilling machine, radial or pillar type, moving to the SKJ does not require a complete reorganisation of the hall. Beams come from cutting as before, except that instead of waiting at the marking-out station, they go straight into the machine. The space freed up by the manual stations can be used for assembly, and experienced operators can move to operations that really require skill, such as welding and quality control.
For a complete beam processing flow, the SKJ naturally pairs with a cutting and coping machine. See the XHQ plasma cutting centre for H-beams or the XHJG laser cutting line for H-beams.
The flow on a CNC beam drilling machine is short, and the operator supervises the process instead of marking out every hole:
1. Programming: the positions and diameters of the holes, on the flanges and on the web, are entered into the control system, which automatically adjusts the drilling parameters.
2. Loading the beam: the H-beam, with a flange of 100–600 mm and a web of 200–1250 mm, is placed on the machine, over a processing length of 12 m or 15 m.
3. Drilling on three spindles: the three 15 kW BT40 spindles drill the flanges and the web, with diameters of 8–40 mm and thicknesses of up to 40 mm, including hole groups within 500 mm.
4. Unloading: the beam comes out fully drilled, with holes positioned exactly, ready for assembly or for erection directly on site.

Six technology directions we integrate turnkey: from plug & play IIoT sensors, to cobots, predictive maintenance, optical inspection, MES connectivity and custom industrial software.
See in real time how much each machine produces and how long it sits idle. We fit sensors on any equipment, new or old, and within a few hours you have the OEE dashboard on your phone. No complex wiring, no production downtime. The first concrete step toward digitalization, with ROI visible from the very first month.
Solve your labor shortage without tripling your costs. The cobot works safely alongside your people (palletizing, feeding the CNC, welding) while you recover the investment in 12-18 months. Prices 30-40% below European distributors, with installation and programming included from us.
Stop waiting for things to break. Our algorithms analyze sensor data and tell you exactly which part will fail and when, and we bring it to your production line before the breakdown. Zero unplanned downtime, zero contractual penalties, complete operational peace of mind.
Eliminate defects before they reach the customer. Our cameras inspect every part at speeds no operator can match, detecting sub-millimeter defects. They mount onto your existing line, with no modifications. Ideal if you produce for export and have strict quality clauses.
Connect your machines to your office, regardless of brand or age. Our gateway automatically translates the data from any machine into your ERP's format: no manual entry, no paper forms, no human error. The manager sees production live, the operator receives digital instructions.
Have a process that no off-the-shelf software can solve? We build custom industrial applications: from tailored SCADA panels and HMI interfaces, to production planning systems, lot traceability and automated reporting. The code is yours, it runs on your servers, with no monthly subscriptions or vendor lock-in.
