Casing lines the well along its full depth and is cemented in the hole. It keeps the well walls from collapsing while drilling.
The casing string has several stages. Conductor casing is the first barrier between the surface and the subsurface. Surface casing isolates freshwater zones, and production casing holds the pressure in the oil zone.
Tubing has a smaller diameter and runs down the well, so oil and gas flow up through it to the surface. It is seamless or welded, with non-upset, external upset or integral joint ends.
Drill pipe comes in 2 3/8, 2 7/8 and 3 1/2 in, with NC26, NC31 and NC38 tool joints. Drill collars are 30 or 31 ft long.
Couplings join two lengths of tubing or casing and are supplied phosphated.
For sour wells with hydrogen sulphide and for deep wells with high collapse loads, special grades are supplied. Chrome grades L80-9Cr and L80-13Cr are also available.
