A metal mini lathe is a bench machine for small parts: a maximum machining length of 350 mm, a 0.55 kW motor and speeds between 140 and 1,710 rpm. It sits on a solid bench, runs from an ordinary socket and needs no factory hall, floor anchoring or compressed air.
Typical buyers are fine-mechanics workshops, jewellers, model makers, small repair shops and laboratories that need a part turned to size, without a production line. The configuration (machining diameter, chuck, accessories) is set at quotation, based on the parts you make.
In practice, a metal mini lathe of this class works cleanly on aluminium, brass, bronze and precious metals, exactly where speed matters more than force. It also handles mild steel, in small passes: 0.55 kW means thin chips and patience, and it is not a roughing machine. Typical parts are shafts, bushings, spacers, short threads, rings, pins and mechanism components that fit within 350 mm. What it does not do: hardened steel, thick bar and long series; for those you need a universal bench lathe, with a motor and rigidity to match.

The maximum speed of 1,710 rpm is why the machine ends up in jewellery and watchmaking. At diameters of a few millimetres, the surface speed of the part stays low however hard you push a large lathe, and the surface comes out matt with tool marks. A small, fast lathe achieves the finish in a single pass.
The light-duty capacity is chosen on purpose, because it is what makes a good part. The small feeds and shallow depths typical of this work produce minimal vibration in the part-tool-machine chain, so the surface comes out cleaner than you get by forcing a heavy machine through fine passes.

The price is not a single number, because you are not buying a single thing. Four factors move it: the machining diameter you need, the type of chuck, the accessory set (tools, steady rest, tailstock, change gears for threading) and whether you need training on the machine. A mini lathe configured for jewellery, with a small chuck and fine tools, and one configured for a repair shop, with threading accessories, start from the same body and end up at different prices.
Compared with a machine bought from a classified ad, the difference is what you get after delivery. A metal mini lathe delivered by Uzinex includes transport, commissioning in your workshop, a 60-month warranty and service with nationwide coverage in Romania, with an on-site visit within 24 hours. Spare parts are in stock, so a fault costs days, where an unsupported machine can cost months of searching for components. If you want the figure for your configuration, request a quote. We reply with a written specification and a firm price.
It is worth saying plainly, because it is the most common confusion: the mini lathes sold in DIY stores and workshop mini lathes look the same in a photo and do different jobs. A hobby lathe is built for occasional use, has a thinner bed, more play in the lead screws and, most importantly, has no service or spare parts behind it once the retail warranty ends. For one part a month that is enough. For a workshop that invoices its turned parts, play in the feed becomes scrap, and a week waiting for a spare part becomes lost money.
The test is simple: if the machine produces something you sell, buy it together with the service and spare parts that keep it running. If you turn parts for yourself at the weekend, a DIY-store lathe is a sensible choice and there is no point paying more.
A second-hand metal mini lathe can be a good deal, but the risk sits in places you do not see in the ad. Check, in this order: wear on the ways, especially in the first 100 mm next to the chuck, where everyone works and where the bed wears first; play in the lead screw and feed nut, measured with a dial indicator, not by ear; the radial runout of the chuck; and whether the full set of change gears is still there, without which you cannot cut threads. Missing gears are common and hard to replace.
On a lathe worn on the ways, the part comes out tapered along its length and there is nothing to correct in the adjustment. The price difference against a new machine disappears at the first bed reconditioning. Add the lack of warranty and invoice, which matter if you want to deduct the purchase or include it in a funded project, and the calculation often shifts in favour of new equipment.
“The difference from a machine bought from a classified ad is not in the iron, but in what comes after.”
Fine mechanics and watchmaking: shafts, precision bushings, pins, special nuts and small gear components. Here the compact machine has a real advantage over a large lathe: small moving masses mean low vibration, and at tight tolerances on parts of a few millimetres that decides the surface quality.
Technical jewellery: rings, bracelets, necklace elements and accessories in gold, silver, brass and artistic bronze. Cylindrical bodies are turned, decorative profiles are cut, and edges are finished and chamfered. The 1,710 rpm speed gives the surface speed needed for a glossy finish at small diameters.
Precision model making: shafts, cylinders, bushings and mechanical components for model aircraft, scale locomotives and model ships, exactly the parts that are not sold at the scale and specification of your project.
Repairs and small series: replacement bushings, spacers, adapters, short threads restored on a part that would otherwise be thrown away. For a small repair shop, the machine pays for itself through the parts you no longer have to order.
Shafts, precision bushings, pins and small gear components, at tolerances that a large lathe misses through vibration.
Rings, bracelets and accessories in gold, silver, brass and bronze, finished at 1,710 rpm.
Shafts, cylinders and bushings for model aircraft, scale locomotives and ship models.
They are in the same size class and are chosen by the part you make. This model (0.55 kW, up to 1,710 rpm, light duty) is the choice for fine precision on small parts: jewellery, model making, watchmaking. The universal bench mini lathe, with a 1.1 kW motor, 9 speed steps, 750 mm between centres and a 38 mm spindle bore, is the choice for repair work, industrial maintenance and spare parts with larger dimensions and power needs. If you often work bar stock passed through the spindle, you need the second one.

Six technology directions we integrate turnkey: from plug & play IIoT sensors, to cobots, predictive maintenance, optical inspection, MES connectivity and custom industrial software.
See in real time how much each machine produces and how long it sits idle. We fit sensors on any equipment, new or old, and within a few hours you have the OEE dashboard on your phone. No complex wiring, no production downtime. The first concrete step toward digitalization, with ROI visible from the very first month.
Solve your labor shortage without tripling your costs. The cobot works safely alongside your people (palletizing, feeding the CNC, welding) while you recover the investment in 12-18 months. Prices 30-40% below European distributors, with installation and programming included from us.
Stop waiting for things to break. Our algorithms analyze sensor data and tell you exactly which part will fail and when, and we bring it to your production line before the breakdown. Zero unplanned downtime, zero contractual penalties, complete operational peace of mind.
Eliminate defects before they reach the customer. Our cameras inspect every part at speeds no operator can match, detecting sub-millimeter defects. They mount onto your existing line, with no modifications. Ideal if you produce for export and have strict quality clauses.
Connect your machines to your office, regardless of brand or age. Our gateway automatically translates the data from any machine into your ERP's format: no manual entry, no paper forms, no human error. The manager sees production live, the operator receives digital instructions.
Have a process that no off-the-shelf software can solve? We build custom industrial applications: from tailored SCADA panels and HMI interfaces, to production planning systems, lot traceability and automated reporting. The code is yours, it runs on your servers, with no monthly subscriptions or vendor lock-in.
