No machine catches quite everything. The sorting cabin is where human judgement completes the automation, in decent working conditions.

In a modern plant the machines do most of the work. But there are always objects the automation does not catch: a black plastic the sensor cannot read, a hazardous item that has no business being in the flow, a textile that slipped in among the recyclables. This is where the manual sorting cabin comes in.
It is a purpose-designed workspace. Enclosed, brightly and evenly lit, continuously ventilated so dust and odour are extracted, climate-controlled so the temperature stays stable year round, with stations at a height calculated to reduce physical strain. See the full range of waste sorting equipment and where each machine sits in the flow.
• Decent working conditions, an enclosed cabin, properly lit, ventilated and climate-controlled, because manual sorting in a dusty, smelly hall cannot be done well or for long.
• It catches what the machines miss, textiles, hazardous waste, black plastics the optical sensor cannot reliably read, composite packaging: this is where they leave the flow.
• It raises final purity, a human check at the end of the line is the difference between a fraction the buyer accepts and one rejected for contamination.
• Shadow-free lighting, material recognition depends directly on how well the operator can see, and poor or shadowed light dramatically reduces accuracy.
• Filtered air, dust extracted, the ventilation system continuously removes dust and odour and supplies fresh filtered air, which is a health requirement rather than a luxury.
• Considered ergonomics, station height and belt width are calculated so the operator reaches the material without excessive bending or stretching.

Cabin dimensions, the number of stations and the chute configuration are set from line throughput, from how many fractions are picked by hand and from the space available in the hall.
• Final check on fractions, verifying an automatically sorted fraction before baling and sale.
• Removing hazardous waste, pulling batteries, aerosols and other items that have no place among recyclables out of the flow.
• Materials the machines cannot distinguish, black plastic, composite packaging, objects with labels that fool the sensor.
• Partially automated plants, combined with mechanical separation, an efficient solution where labour cost is lower.
• Pre-sorting at the inlet, removing large and hazardous objects before the flow reaches the machines.
The cabin is integrated into the automated line, it does not work separately. Once the waste has passed the mechanical stages, pre-shredding, bag opening, screening by trommel or ballistic separator, a targeted stream is directed to the manual sorting area. This stream is deliberately slower than the rest of the line and contains the material that needs a human decision. The belt runs past the work stations, and each operator is trained to look for a particular material type or contaminant. As the belt advances, the operator quickly scans the material, reaches in and removes the items assigned to them. These are placed into chutes, bins or secondary belts leading to separate collection points, for example a container for film and a chute for non-recyclable contaminants. The cleaned stream then continues to the next automatic stages or to baling. The key to a cabin that works well is belt speed: too fast and the operators miss items, too slow and you lose capacity.
The number of stations is calculated from the throughput reaching the cabin and from how many fractions are picked by hand, not from the total line throughput. An operator has a realistic limit, and overloading them translates directly into lower purity. The second aspect is placement: the cabin usually goes at the end of the line as a final check, but in plants handling very mixed waste a pre-sorting station at the inlet is also justified, for removing large and hazardous objects. The third, and the one most often underestimated: the indoor environment systems. Ventilation and climate control are not optional, because in a dusty, smelly space performance drops quickly and staff turnover becomes the main problem.
Do I still need manual sorting if I have an optical sorter and a robot?
Yes, as a final check. There are always materials the automation cannot reliably distinguish, especially black plastics, which reflect poorly in infrared, and composite packaging. There is also hazardous waste, which needs to be removed by someone who understands what they are seeing. The difference is that people stay for difficult decisions, not for volume.
Why is a cabin needed instead of a simple sorting table?
Because an operator's performance depends directly on the conditions they work in. In poor light they cannot recognise the material, in dust and odour they tire quickly and make mistakes, and in extreme summer or winter temperatures in an unheated hall the pace drops sharply. An enclosed, climate-controlled cabin is what separates sorting that works from sorting that only appears to work.
How many work stations do I need?
It is calculated from the throughput actually reaching the cabin and from how many fractions are picked by hand, not from the total line throughput. An overloaded operator misses material, so purity drops and the benefit disappears. We size the cabin from your real flow, not from a general formula.
What belt speed should it run at?
Slow and adjustable. Too fast and operators have no time to recognise and grab objects. Too slow and you lose processing capacity. The optimum is found in the first weeks of operation, with the real operators and the real material, which is why the adjustment matters.
Is the equipment supplied new?
Yes. We supply new units only, made to order for your application, with complete technical documentation.
What maintenance does it need?
Periodic replacement of the air filters, cleaning the ventilation system and the light fittings, checking the climate control installation and maintaining the conveyor and the chutes. The filters are the critical point: a clogged filter cancels out the whole benefit of the cabin.

Six technology directions we integrate turnkey: from plug & play IIoT sensors, to cobots, predictive maintenance, optical inspection, MES connectivity and custom industrial software.
See in real time how much each machine produces and how long it sits idle. We fit sensors on any equipment, new or old, and within a few hours you have the OEE dashboard on your phone. No complex wiring, no production downtime. The first concrete step toward digitalization, with ROI visible from the very first month.
Solve your labor shortage without tripling your costs. The cobot works safely alongside your people (palletizing, feeding the CNC, welding) while you recover the investment in 12-18 months. Prices 30-40% below European distributors, with installation and programming included from us.
Stop waiting for things to break. Our algorithms analyze sensor data and tell you exactly which part will fail and when, and we bring it to your production line before the breakdown. Zero unplanned downtime, zero contractual penalties, complete operational peace of mind.
Eliminate defects before they reach the customer. Our cameras inspect every part at speeds no operator can match, detecting sub-millimeter defects. They mount onto your existing line, with no modifications. Ideal if you produce for export and have strict quality clauses.
Connect your machines to your office, regardless of brand or age. Our gateway automatically translates the data from any machine into your ERP's format: no manual entry, no paper forms, no human error. The manager sees production live, the operator receives digital instructions.
Have a process that no off-the-shelf software can solve? We build custom industrial applications: from tailored SCADA panels and HMI interfaces, to production planning systems, lot traceability and automated reporting. The code is yours, it runs on your servers, with no monthly subscriptions or vendor lock-in.
