An AI waste sorting robot does what no mechanical separator can: it looks at an object, recognises it and decides what to do with it. Mechanical separators go by size or density; the robot goes by what it sees, exactly like a human operator, only without breaks and without getting tired.
The system has three parts. A camera scans the belt and records every object. A deep learning algorithm, trained on hundreds of thousands of images, identifies it. A robotic arm picks it up and places it in the right bin. And everything it sees enters the database, so the robot gets better with every shift. See the full range of waste sorting equipment and where each machine sits in the flow.
• It recognises over 20 material types, the algorithm tells wood from wet cardboard and stone from polystyrene foam, at a stated accuracy above 90%.
• 4000 picks per hour, nonstop, it works around the clock, with no breaks, no drop in attention and no staff turnover, which is the real problem with manual sorting.
• It picks up to 30 kg, the heavy-duty version handles objects an operator cannot safely lift repeatedly, such as chunks of concrete or drums.
• It learns from operation, every scanned object enters the database, so the robot recognises the new packaging in your flow without being reprogrammed.
• Combined sensors, the colour camera can be complemented by a near-infrared sensor and a 3D line laser, for more reliable decisions on difficult materials.
• It takes people out of the hazard zone, manual sorting exposes operators to cuts, dust and contaminated waste, and the robot takes over exactly that part.

The figures above correspond to manufacturer-published data for the heavy-duty version. The number of robots needed on a line is set from throughput and from how many fractions you want picked at once, because one arm picks one fraction at a time.
• Municipal waste sorting plants, fine sorting of valuable fractions, after mechanical separation.
• Construction and demolition waste, picking wood, concrete, brick and metal from the mixed flow, where object weight calls for the heavy-duty version.
• Quality control, a final check on an already sorted fraction, to remove remaining contaminants.
• Electronic waste, separating components and housings by material type.
• Commercial recycling, sorting mixed packaging from commercial waste, where composition varies.
The cycle has four steps and repeats several thousand times an hour. First, material travels on the belt through the robot's field of view, and the camera system records high-resolution images of every object, often complemented by a spectroscopic sensor reading material composition. Second, the information reaches the robot's computer, where the pre-trained AI model compares it against its learned database and determines the material type, for instance PET, HDPE, aluminium or wood. Third, the system calculates the object's exact position on the moving belt and the arm's trajectory, then the arm descends, grips the object and deposits it in the bin allocated to that material. The fourth step is the one that makes the long-term difference: data about the scanned object is added to the collective database, and the model is periodically retrained. That means the robot teaches itself the new packaging appearing in your flow, rather than being manually reprogrammed for every new situation.
The first criterion is the weight of objects in the flow. For ordinary recyclables, cans, bottles, cardboard, the light version is enough and faster. For construction or bulky waste, where chunks of concrete, solid timber or drums appear, you need the heavy-duty version, which handles up to 30 kg. The second criterion is how many fractions you want picked: one arm picks one fraction at a time, so for three fractions at once you need either three robots or acceptance of a lower throughput. The third, and most important: the robot performs on a flow already prepared mechanically and spread in a thin layer. Put on mixed, piled waste, it cannot see what is underneath.
How does it differ from an optical sorter?
An optical sorter separates with air jets, very fast, but it deflects everything passing the nozzle, so it needs a perfectly spread layer. The robot picks selectively, object by object, so it copes better with irregular flows and with large or heavy objects. The optical sorter is faster on large uniform volumes, the robot is more flexible. Many plants use both together.
How long does training take?
The robot arrives already trained on a database accumulated over more than ten years, so it recognises the usual materials from day one. What is added in the first weeks of operation is the packaging specific to your flow. The process is continuous and needs no action from you, the system learns from what it sees.
How many robots do I need?
It depends on throughput and on how many fractions you want picked at once, because one arm handles one fraction at a time. If you want PET, cardboard and aluminium picked separately, at the same time and at full throughput, you need three arms. One robot can also handle several fractions, but at a lower throughput.
Does it fully replace manual sorting?
It takes over the heavy, repetitive part, but a manual sorting cabin remains useful as a final check, particularly for hazardous waste and for materials even the algorithm cannot reliably distinguish. The difference is that people stay for decisions, not for volume.
Is the equipment supplied new?
Yes. We supply new units only, made to order for your application, with complete technical documentation.
What maintenance does it need?
Cleaning the cameras and the lighting system, which get dusty and directly affect accuracy, checking the arm's gripping elements, which are wear parts, inspecting the joints and the pneumatic system, plus software updates.

Six technology directions we integrate turnkey: from plug & play IIoT sensors, to cobots, predictive maintenance, optical inspection, MES connectivity and custom industrial software.
See in real time how much each machine produces and how long it sits idle. We fit sensors on any equipment, new or old, and within a few hours you have the OEE dashboard on your phone. No complex wiring, no production downtime. The first concrete step toward digitalization, with ROI visible from the very first month.
Solve your labor shortage without tripling your costs. The cobot works safely alongside your people (palletizing, feeding the CNC, welding) while you recover the investment in 12-18 months. Prices 30-40% below European distributors, with installation and programming included from us.
Stop waiting for things to break. Our algorithms analyze sensor data and tell you exactly which part will fail and when, and we bring it to your production line before the breakdown. Zero unplanned downtime, zero contractual penalties, complete operational peace of mind.
Eliminate defects before they reach the customer. Our cameras inspect every part at speeds no operator can match, detecting sub-millimeter defects. They mount onto your existing line, with no modifications. Ideal if you produce for export and have strict quality clauses.
Connect your machines to your office, regardless of brand or age. Our gateway automatically translates the data from any machine into your ERP's format: no manual entry, no paper forms, no human error. The manager sees production live, the operator receives digital instructions.
Have a process that no off-the-shelf software can solve? We build custom industrial applications: from tailored SCADA panels and HMI interfaces, to production planning systems, lot traceability and automated reporting. The code is yours, it runs on your servers, with no monthly subscriptions or vendor lock-in.
