• A36 is a structural steel for riveted, bolted or welded structures such as bridges and buildings.
• S355 is used for buildings, bridges, ships and vehicles where strength matters.
• AH36 is a shipbuilding plate up to 150 mm thick.
• SA516 Gr.70 is used for reactors, heat exchangers and pressure vessels.
• NM400 and NM500 are wear resistant plates with high abrasion resistance.

The use decides the grade. Structures usually take S275JR or S355, wear parts take NM400, and pressure vessels take SA516 Gr.70.
